About the Role
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
To inspire, lead, guide, and direct every member of the administrative, instructional, and support services staff in achieving the highest standard of excellence. To oversee and administer the use of all district facilities, property, and funds with a maximum of efficiency so that each student enrolled in the district may be provided with an appropriate and effective education
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Under general supervision of the Board of Directors, the Superintendent performs the following
responsibilities within the overarching framework of the Iowa Standards for School Leaders (ISSL).
ISSL Standard #1: Mission, Vision and Core Values: Develop, advocate and enact a shared mission,
vision, and core values of high-quality education and academic success and well-being of each student.
ISSL Standard #2: Ethics and Professional Norms: Act ethically and according to professional norms
to promote each student’s academic success and well-being.
ISSL Standard #3: Equity and Cultural Responsiveness: Strive for equity of educational opportunity
and culturally responsive practices to promote each student’s academic success and well-being.
ISSL Standard #4: Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment: Develop and support intellectually
rigorous and coherent systems of curriculum, instruction and assessment to promote each student’s
academic success and well-being.
ISSL Standard #5: Community Care and Support for Students: Cultivate an inclusive, caring and
supportive school community that promotes the academic success and well-being of each student.
ISSL Standard #6: Professional Capacity of School Personnel: Develop the professional capacity and
practice of school personnel to promote each student’s academic success and well-being.
ISSL Standard #7: Professional Community for Teachers and Staff: Foster a professional community
of teachers and professional staff to promote each student’s academic success and well-being.
ISSL Standard #8: Meaningful Engagement of Families and Community: Engage families and the
community in meaningful, reciprocal, and mutually beneficial ways to promote each student’s academic
success and well-being.
ISSL Standard #9: Operations and Management: Manage school operations and resources to
promote each student’s academic success and well-being.
ISSL Standard #10: School Improvement: Act as an agent of continuous improvement to promote each
student’s academic success and well-being.
Requirements
Education and Licensure:
● Hold a Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution.
● Hold a Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution.
● Hold or eligible for an Iowa Professional Administrator License with a Superintendent Endorsement.
Knowledge and Skills:
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
● Demonstrates strong organizational skills.
● Able to make difficult decisions with a long-term impact on the district.
● Competent in research and information-gathering through technology.
● Demonstrates a broad knowledge of curriculum, assessment, professional development, school improvement, and student achievement strategies.
